Ng dev team a répondu rapidement :
Hi Jose,
we are aware about this thread and we fully understand your concerns.
Unfortunately there are a couple of problems.
1. We can't afford to do significantly larger print runs!
It simply would ruin us if we would try.
2. A twice as big print run, only drops pricing by ~15 EUR per unit
A five times as big print run, only drops pricing by ~70 EUR per unit
3. Production in China is only ~10% cheaper than in Germany for our PCBs/parts and our low print runs.
4. If we produce 1000 cartridges it would costs us alone 187 days to get the game data into the cartridges, to test them, to assemble them and to put the artworks on them. Shipping not included...
5. There is no real profit in MVS anymore, besides bootlegging.
6. Only the DC versions/ports are really profitable for us. We produce MVS cartridges only for self-fulfillment, because we love to develop for the NEO GEO. Even though the NEO GEO development only hurts our reputation and is limiting our development as a company.
The only way to make these cartridges available to the masses, would be a huge success in the Japanese arcade. Unfortunately most arcade distributors won't stock our games, as they fear penalty from SNKP. We can't blame them, it's understandable.
There is still hope though, with each run, we will be able to reduce the pricing per cart slightly. Hopefully at some point in the future we will be able todo a redesign and reduce the price by a good amount. This redesign will be financed with the MVS release of Gun Lord. Games of the 3000 MEGS class, like Fast Striker won't run on those new PCBs though...
Best regards,
Timm
